Welcome to Karunya Geriatric Care Centre
On Sept.21st 1996, "The World Alzheimer's Day - The Palakkad Chapter of Alzheimers and related Disorders Society of India was formed by a Group of Psychiatrists and volunteers in Palakkad. At that time, very little was known about the Alzheimers' Disease in India - especially in Kerala. So the Chapter under the leadership of well known Psychiatrist in Palakkad Dr.M.Sivathanu Pillai took upon the task of raising awareness of this disease among the community. With the help of the District Sociial Welfare Department, all Anganwadi Teachers and Public Health Workers were given awareness classes on Alzheimers' Disease. Around 80 Classes were conducted during the period 1996 to 2000.
In 2001 the present premises - One and a half acres of land was purchased and Karunya Geriatric Care Centre was established in a building with 2000 sq.ft. Since then the Trust ha been raising awareness of Alzheimers Disease in Palakkad Dist through Seminars, and other media whenever there is an opportunity.
Since 7th July, 2002 The Trust has been conducting a FREE Geriatric Allopathic Medical Camp to the under privileged community in and around Kodumba Panchayat and on average, 50 to 60 senior citizens avail this service - Free Medical consultation and medicines given by the Trust.

The above team of Trustees, is efficiently supported by a locally constituted “Karunya Welfare Committee” with 15 members, well known in the local community for their commitment in different charitable services. This team is lead by Sri. P. Parameswaran, retired from Indian Air force.
